I will have to admit I have never seen any of Emily Carr's artwork before today. I had heard of her but never really got into looking up any of her artwork. After class today I immediately googled her and found this picture right away that very much represents this time of year. I found her artwork to be very engaging and I can see why she is a very important Canadian artist. her work is very beautiful and quite wonderful to work at. Now I actually feel quite ashamed that I have never looked at any of her artwork. This drawing in particular actually reminds me of some of Monet's work with the use of colour and almost blurred scenery. I think now I may have to look up more of her art and maybe even put it as a background to my laptop screen.

I agree! I actually have always had a bit of a guilt complex because although I know who she is and that she is a Canadian icon, I am really not that familiar with her actual work. I will have to make a point of looking up some images as well :)
Never too late! Thanks, Trevor and Charlea, for your interest. The BC archives has hundreds of images of her artwork and her life available for our use.
Very nice! That painting reminds me of some Group of Seven paintings I've seen. (I have a photo of one Group of Seven painting on my first blog post.) I've only seen a couple of works by Carr, but never that one. I guess I'll have to take a look at her work too!
Reading the blogs about different artists reallly makes me see how little I know about them. Same as Charlea, I know who Emily Carr is but I had never really looked at her work. I think I will have to try and find out more about different artists.
A good book to read to your class is Spirit Bear. I did a lesson on mixed media and incorporated both the book and Emily Carr's work and the students loved it.
